Karen has been invited by Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc., to participate in their ADR conference on November 29, 2010 in Boston, MA. Karen, along with Vicki Shemin and Doug Reynolds, will be speaking on Collaborative Law and the Uniform Collaborative Law Act.
November 18, 2010: Levitt chosen for worldwide IACP-sponsored phone bridge
Karen Levit was chosen as one of several panelists from around the world to participate in an IACP sponsored phone bridge entitled "What we have learned from Practice Group Leaders" on November 18, 2010. In the last session of 2010, members of the IACP Practice Group Development Committee, including Karen, will discuss ideas, information and tips they have gathered from the Practice Group Survey and their conversations with Practice Group Leaders over the last year. October 2010: IACP forum presentation by Levitt, Conner and Schrey was well received
Karen attended the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals' three-day forum in Washington, D.C. in October, 2010, which focused on competence, commitment, and community. The conference was attended by over 600 lawyers, mental health professionals, and financial professionals from around the world. Karen along with Catherine Conner, J.D. from California, and Mary Schrey MFT from Oregon, presented "Practice Group Excellence in developing our collaborative community", which focused on developing and sustaining well functioning practice groups locally, nationally and internationally. As members of the IACP Practice Group Development Committee, Karen, Catherine and Mary discussed practice group excellence in different locales and forms—rural, urban, international, small and large groups, and regional groups. The program was well attended and quite successful!

June 27, 2010: Levitt walks half marathon to support the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation
Karen successfully completed the half marathon sponsored by Team Challenge and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, which was a 13.1 mile course at the beautiful Blue Hills Reservation in Canton. Karen raised over $8,000.00 for charity, thanks to many generous friends, colleagues, and family. Karen also thanks the Levitt Law Group and all of her colleagues at work for their support!
June 3, 2010: Collaborative Law & Mediation Presentation at Norfolk County Law Library
Karen Levitt gave a presentation on June 3, 2010, at the Norfolk County Law Library, entitled “Collaborative Law and Mediation: A Hybrid Approach to Conflict Resolution”. The presentation focused on the integration of the Collaborative Law and Mediation processes to meet the challenges that these processes alone may not be able to address for clients. Whether in litigation or seeking out of court solutions, using a hybrid model brings greater depth and more variety of problem solving techniques to dispute resolution.
April 8-10, 2010: American Bar Association invites Levitt to speak at spring conference
Karen Levitt, Lynda Robbins and William Andrews were invited to give a presentation at the American Bar Association Dispute Resolution Section Spring Conference in San Francisco April 8-10, 2010. Their presentation is titled "Two Processes are Better than One: Combining Mediation and Collaborative Practice To Help Families Resolve Estate and Elder Conflicts."

Karen Levitt has been invited as one of the legal experts sharing their knowledge with members of the public as part of the Massachusetts Superior Court 150th Anniversary Commemoration program "The People's Law School." She will join Judge Maryanne Sahagian and Attorneys Maxa S. Berid and Margaret Reilly in talking about divorce, custody, and child support. She is honored to be part of this program, which will be held on November 3, 2009 at the Federal Building, Middlesex Community College, 50 Kearney Square, Lowell, MA from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

The Levitt Law Group is pleased to announce that the proposal submitted by Karen J. Levitt and Gina Arons for a workshop at the 2009 IACP 10th Anniversary Forum to be held October 23–25, 2009 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has been accepted as a 90-minute advanced workshop in collaborative practice. Entitled "I've Got a Secret…": The Impact of Privilege, Confidentiality, and Transparency on the Collaborative Team", the workshop addresses the challenges created for the team as a result of the tensions between transparency, privilege, and confidentiality, and how to transcend this tension to avoid conflict and impasses when the client says "I've Got a Secret…".

Karen Levitt and Andrea Wells are attending Elder Mediation Training sponsored by Elder Decisions, a division of Agreement Resources, LLC. The Levitt Law Group is expanding their practice areas in collaborative law, mediation, and litigation, and are now adding elder and probate mediation including multi-party mediation.

July 2008: Levitt walks half-marathon to benefit Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America
Karen is embarking on a half-marathon in July to benefit the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. She will complete the 13.1-mile walk at the Napa to Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon on July 20, 2008, to raise funds and awareness for research leading to improved treatment options and a cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis (IBD). It is estimated that as many as 1.4 million Americans have IBD; however, many more suffer in silence due to potential embarrassment and alienation. Karen is walking because IBD has personally affected close members of her family. She has set a fundraising goal of $7,500.00. If you are interested in contributing, note that a minimum of 80 cents per dollar raised by CCFA goes directly to research and patient support, and your contribution is tax deductible. Karen J. Levitt was one of the faculty at the Suffolk University School of Law, Center for Advanced Legal Studies program entitled “Resolving Conflict Without Litigation: Fundamentals of Collaborative Practice Skills” held on September 27-28, 2007. On the first day of the program, Karen co-presented with Douglas Reynolds “What is Collaborative Practice & How it Shifts”, and also co-presented with Rita S. Pollak “Getting Started with Collaborative Practice”. Karen and Rita on the second day of the program co-facilitated a series of interactive role plays involving the attendees that demonstrated collaborative practice skills for attorneys and allied professionals. The attendees were lawyers, mental health professionals, and financial specialists from Massachusetts and several other states.

Levitt Law Group principal Karen J. Levitt became the President of the Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council (MCLC) on March 1, 2007. She was previously the President-Elect of MCLC, and also served as MCLC’s Vice-President of Education and Training for several years. 2006: Andrea M. Wells Now Provides Services as a Mediator
Andrea M. Wells completed her week long mediation training in 2006 through Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, and now provides services as a neutral mediator, while continuing her legal representation of clients in collaborative practice and litigation.
August 2006: Levitt Raises $10,000 for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America
Karen J. Levitt rode in the Get Your Guts in Gear, Inc. charity bike ride in Seattle, Washington in August 2006. This was a 3 day, 210 mile bicycle ride to benefit the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America and related organizations. Karen successfully completed the ride and raised over $10,000.00 for charity.
