November 20, 2009:  Arons & Levitt discuss collaborative law on CCTV
Karen Levitt and Gina Arons, a psychologist from Lincoln, MA and a collaborative law case facilitator, were guests of CCTV, a local cable network in Concord-Carlisle, talking about collaborative law. It was an exciting opportunity to share information about collaborative law with the public.

November 3, 2009:  Massachusetts Superior Court program: "The People's Law School"
Karen Levitt has been invited as one of the legal experts sharing their knowledge with members of the public as part of the Massachusetts Superior Court 150th Anniversary Commemoration program "The People's Law School." She will join Judge Maryanne Sahagian and Attorneys Maxa S. Berid and Margaret Reilly in talking about divorce, custody, and child support. She is honored to be part of this program, which will be held on November 3, 2009 at the Federal Building, Middlesex Community College, 50 Kearney Square, Lowell, MA from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

October 23–25, 2009:  Levitt & Arons to hold an advanced workshop at the IACP Forum
The Levitt Law Group is pleased to announce that the proposal submitted by Karen J. Levitt and Gina Arons for a workshop at the 2009 IACP 10th Anniversary Forum to be held October 23–25, 2009 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has been accepted as a 90-minute advanced workshop in collaborative practice. Entitled "I've Got a Secret…": The Impact of Privilege, Confidentiality, and Transparency on the Collaborative Team", the workshop addresses the challenges created for the team as a result of the tensions between transparency, privilege, and confidentiality, and how to transcend this tension to avoid conflict and impasses when the client says "I've Got a Secret…".

April 2009:  Levitt & Wells attend Elder Mediation Training
Karen Levitt and Andrea Wells are attending Elder Mediation Training sponsored by Elder Decisions, a division of Agreement Resources, LLC. The Levitt Law Group is expanding their practice areas in collaborative law, mediation, and litigation, and are now adding elder and probate mediation including multi-party mediation.

February 26, 2009:  Compliance Workshop for New Massachusetts Security Regulation
Karen Levitt was a panel member at the Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council (MCLC) sponsored workshop on a new Security Regulation that will affect all Collaborative Professionals. The workshop was held on February 26, 2009 from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the Conference Center at Bentley College.

January 2009:  IACP seeks Levitt for Practice Group Development Committee
The International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP) has invited Karen Levitt to be on their Practice Group Development Committee for 2009-2010. The is an exciting opportunity for Attorney Levitt to become involved in Collaborative Practice at the international level.

October 16, 2008:  Karen Levitt Co-Chairs Massachusetts Bar Association Program
Karen Levitt is Program Co-Chair, as well as one of the faculty members, of “Stops Along the ADR Spectrum: Matching the Best Option with the Situation.” This program, sponsored by the Massachusetts Bar Association, is being offered in Boston, MA, on October 16, 2008, which is Conflict Resolution Day. Other faculty members include Michael Zeytoonian, Dawn Effron, John Fiske, Warren Fitzgerald, John Fieldsteel, and Brad Honoroff.


September 25-26, 2008: Presentations at Suffolk University Law School, Boston, MA
Karen Levitt will be giving two presentations at the Center for Advanced Legal Studies, Suffolk University Law School on September 25-26, 2008. She will be co-presenting “Getting Started with a Collaborative Case” with Attorney Lisa Smith and Shel Miller, Ph.d and “Marketing and Building Your Practice” with Attorney David Hoffman and Attorney Eileen Sorrentino.


July 2008: Levitt walks half-marathon to benefit Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America
Karen is embarking on a half-marathon in July to benefit the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. She will complete the 13.1-mile walk at the Napa to Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon on July 20, 2008, to raise funds and awareness for research leading to improved treatment options and a cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis (IBD). It is estimated that as many as 1.4 million Americans have IBD; however, many more suffer in silence due to potential embarrassment and alienation. Karen is walking because IBD has personally affected close members of her family. She has set a fundraising goal of $7,500.00. If you are interested in contributing, note that a minimum of 80 cents per dollar raised by CCFA goes directly to research and patient support, and your contribution is tax deductible. Karen J. Levitt was invited to be a guest lecturer at two mediation classes at New England School of Law on November 12 and November 14, 2007, to talk about collaborative practice and its relationship to mediation. The classes were well attended by the law students, who had a lively interchange with Attorney Levitt about these two forms of dispute resolution.


November 2, 2007: Kids First Center invites Karen J. Levitt to be on Education Panel
Karen J. Levitt will be on a panel at the Kids First Center's Education Series on November 2, 2007, in Harraseeket, Maine. Stu Webb and Marsha Schechtman will be presenting an all day program entitled, "A Team Approach to Collaborative Divorce: An Interdisciplinary Workshop Providing Strategies for Financial, Legal and Mental Health Professionals." Karen will participate in a panel of professionals who have experience working with the collaborative model. The panel on which Karen is participating will be held after lunch. October 2007: Karen J. Levitt attends MCFM's Sixth Annual Family Mediation Institute
Karen J. Levitt will be attending the Massachusetts Council on Family Mediations’ Sixth Annual Family Mediation Institute in Wellesley, Massachusetts this October, 2007. This institute is attended by litigators, mediators, and collaborative practitioners to explore the many facets of mediation and the relationship of mediation to litigation and other forms of dispute resolution. September 27-28, 2007: Karen J. Levitt presents at Suffolk University School of Law
Karen J. Levitt was one of the faculty at the Suffolk University School of Law, Center for Advanced Legal Studies program entitled “Resolving Conflict Without Litigation: Fundamentals of Collaborative Practice Skills” held on September 27-28, 2007. On the first day of the program, Karen co-presented with Douglas Reynolds “What is Collaborative Practice & How it Shifts”, and also co-presented with Rita S. Pollak “Getting Started with Collaborative Practice”. Karen and Rita on the second day of the program co-facilitated a series of interactive role plays involving the attendees that demonstrated collaborative practice skills for attorneys and allied professionals. The attendees were lawyers, mental health professionals, and financial specialists from Massachusetts and several other states.


March 1, 2007: Levitt Named President of the Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council
Levitt Law Group principal Karen J. Levitt became the President of the Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council (MCLC) on March 1, 2007. She was previously the President-Elect of MCLC, and also served as MCLC’s Vice-President of Education and Training for several years. Karen recently chaired the September 2006 Suffolk University Law School Center for Advanced Legal Studies program co-sponsored with MCLC entitled “Expanding Professional Skills to Resolve Conflict”.

Karen is also serving this year on the Massachusetts Bar Association Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee, and is a member of the Trial Court Standing Committee on Dispute Resolution including Co-Chairing their Education Sub-Committee.

2006: Andrea M. Wells Now Provides Services as a Mediator
Andrea M. Wells completed her week long mediation training in 2006 through Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, and now provides services as a neutral mediator, while continuing her legal representation of clients in collaborative practice and litigation.

August 2006: Levitt Raises $10,000 for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America
Karen J. Levitt rode in the Get Your Guts in Gear, Inc. charity bike ride in Seattle, Washington in August 2006. This was a 3 day, 210 mile bicycle ride to benefit the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America and related organizations. Karen successfully completed the ride and raised over $10,000.00 for charity.
